Summerville Medical Center opens new 30-bed surgical unit as part of expansion

Summerville Medical Center's new surgical unit opened Monday, hospital officials announced.

The new 30-bed unit is designed for high quality post-surgical care and is phase one of the Inpatient Tower construction project.

The project costs $66.8 million, according to hospital officials.

“Summerville Medical Center is situated in one of the fastest growing areas in Charleston, and while we work to meet the health needs of our community, it is vital that we also add capacity and clinical programs,” Chief Executive Officer at Summerville Medical Center Stephen Chandler stated. “Every patient who enters our doors is our neighbor, a member of our church, the owner of a local business we frequent. They are the heart of our mission to provide comprehensive, high quality care for all those who need us, for many years to come.”
