LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Spalding University has a new tool in the classroom to get students ready for a career in nursing.

Baptist Health donated more than $95,000 in hospital beds for the school of nursing on Friday.

Nursing students are using them in their training. They'll be used for clinical simulations and training exercises, "providing students with real-world experiences in a controlled environment."

Leaders said learning how to use them now gets them ready for when they get a job.

"This is not just nursing, (the) health care team, physical therapy, also need to learn how to use these beds," Dr. Lana Watson, with Spalding University's School of Nursing, said. "Whether we have a patient or a simulated mannequin, they need to be able to know how to transfer the patient out of the bed, the functionality to weigh them in bed."

Each of the beds are valued at around $3,000-$5,000.
